7 Must Have Northwest Soups

Published Jan 10th, 2014

Soup is a good way to warm up from the cold, but also one of America’s traditional comfort foods, making it great for any time of the year. For this blog we’ve selected a few of our favorite, Northwest restaurants that are famous for their soups. Enjoy!

Chowder BowlChowder Bowl/Newport – Clam Chowder
Chowder Bowl proudly serves their milk-based, thick and creamy New England-style chowder using only the best quality sea clams. This chowder is so good that Chowder Bowl has been featured on “The Today Show”, in Coastal Living Magazine, and recently the 2010 & 2011 Newport News-Times “Best Chowder” award.

Deschutes Brewery/Bend & Portland – French Onion
This delicious French Onion soup is made with red onions, yellow onions and shallots, crostini and Gruyere cheese. Deschutes Brewery is well known for their brews, but is also a favorite for its natural, sustainable fare that is locally sourced and house-made.

Flight Deck/Salem – Prime Rib Chowder
There are so many delicious scratch-made soups at Flight Deck that it’s hard to choose just one. An excellent choice is their Prime Rib Chowder. It’s rich and creamy with potatoes and prime rib chunks.

Glass Onion/Goldendale, WA – Pumpkin Soup
This Pumpkin soup uses oven roasted pumpkin seasoned with winter spice and maple syrup. It’s finished with spiced cream and toasted pumpkin seeds. The Glass Onion is off the beaten path, but well worth the trip for modern Northwest made-from-scratch cuisine.

Milo's City Cafe Milo’s/Portland – Hungarian Mushroom
A rich and delicious treat made from a variety of fresh mushrooms, dill, paprika and cream.  It’s silky smooth and decadent. Milo’s Chef Loren, likes it as a perfect foil for a Caesar salad. You can also get the recipe to make it yourself if you’d like. Of course, we think it’s best to try it at Milo’s.

Mo’s/Oregon Coast – Clam Chowder
Mo’s has been an Oregon Coast favorite for more than 50 years, and is the home of Mo’s World Famous Clam Chowder!  You can also get Mo’s Clam Chowder base shipped directly to you. All you do is add milk and heat! Order here…

Pangea/Ashland – Coconut Curry Yam
Pangea is well known for their scratch-made soups, winning ‘Best Soup in Ashland’ year after year. Their Coconut Curry Yam soup uses organic yams pureed with coconut milk, along with celery, onions, ginger, garlic, curry powder and a special spice mix on top.
